Comfortex History
Comfortex was founded in 1986 by Thomas J. Marusak and John Schenebly to fulfill a need for window covering for greenhouse windows. In 1995, Comfortex expanded its operations and relocated from the 150-year-old historic Harmony Textile Mills in Cohoes to a nearby 100,000 square foot facility located in Maplewood, New York. In 1996, Comfortex purchased Royal Wood, a manufacturer of proprietary wood alloy products extruder located in Phoenix, Arizona. Today, Comfortex continues to manufacture high quality window treatments as a wholly - owned, independent subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Hunter Douglas company. It employs over 600 people nationally, a third of whom work at the Maplewood, NY facility. Comfortex remains at the forefront of both technology and style, and is nationally recognized as an innovative leader in the window treatment industry.
Partnering with Customers
Independent business people have formed the backbone of U.S. economic growth for decades. Amidst the changing landscape of retailers in American business, Comfortex believes that independent retailers continue to hold the key to the future of the custom window treatment market. It is upon this belief that Comfortex has committed its brand name distribution stategy for the 21st century through the Composer Alliance of independent retail fabricators.
Comfortex created the Composer Program in 1992 to provide independent window treatment retailers with the best opportunity to compete against National Retailers and other large competitors. The Composer program has since been expanded and is now the Comfortex BlindCrafter Program - a turn-key, brand name program for fabricating, marketing, and promoting high quality, innovative custom window treatment products, offering market control and profit advantage. There exists a growing, worldwide network of Comfortex BlindCrafters that can be found at www.blindcrafter.com.
